ENHANCING KONECRANES RUBBER TYRED GANTRY CRANE (RTG) SAFETY AT BENIN TERMINAL WITH FOGMAKER FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS
Paterson Simons has successfully completed the installation of advanced Fogmaker fire suppression systems on four Konecranes Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes at Benin Terminal in Cotonou, Benin.
The project was carried out between 6 and 24 May 2026 by Paterson Simons engineers, working alongside Fogmaker specialists Holger Pfriem and Simon Lindquist. Together, the team installed comprehensive fire suppression systems designed to protect both the diesel engine houses and electrical rooms of RTG 01, RTG 02, RTG 03 and RTG 04.
The installation involved fitting Fogmaker’s advanced fire suppression systems to protect key areas of the RTG cranes, including the diesel engine compartments and electrical rooms. The work included the installation of detection systems, suppression equipment, piping, electrical wiring, alarms and control units, followed by comprehensive testing and commissioning to ensure full operational readiness.
Fire suppression systems play a critical role in protecting valuable port equipment, reducing the risk of fire-related damage and downtime, and helping to safeguard personnel working around these machines. By equipping its RTG fleet with these systems, Benin Terminal has taken an important step towards strengthening operational safety and asset protection.
The project also marked an important milestone as one of Paterson Simons first major collaborations with Fogmaker. The quality of the installation received high praise from the Fogmaker team, recognising the professionalism, technical expertise and commitment demonstrated by the Paterson Simons engineers throughout the project.
Paterson Simons remains committed to supporting customers across West and Central Africa with solutions that improve equipment reliability, safety and operational performance!
