DID YOU KNOW LAKE BOSUMTWI, NESTLED IN AN ANCIENT METEORITE CRATER, IS GHANA’S LARGEST AND ONLY NATURAL LAKE IN THE ASHANTI REGION?

Nestled within an ancient meteorite impact crater, Lake Bosumtwi is not only the largest natural lake in Ghana, but also the only one in the Ashanti Region.

Spanning approximately 10.5 kilometres (6.5 miles) in diameter, this stunning body of water is located about 30 kilometres (19 miles) southeast of Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti. The lake is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, offering a range of recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, and boating.

Lake Bosumtwi is surrounded by around 30 villages, with a combined population of about 70,000 people.

The area is known for its thriving fishing industry, with the lake providing a plentiful supply of fish that sustains the local economy. One of the most popular villages near the lake is Abono, where tourists frequently settle to enjoy the serene surroundings and engage in various outdoor activities.

As a significant cultural and economic hub for the Ashanti people, Lake Bosumtwi continues to play a vital role in the region’s livelihood, while also drawing visitors from around the world to experience its natural beauty and vibrant community. More here

APM TERMINALS MAASVLAKTE II SIGNS UNIQUE COOPERATION CONTRACT WITH EMBOTECH AND TERBERG FOR THE PURCHASE AND IMPLEMENTATION OF 30 ELECTRIC AUTOMATED TERMINAL TRACTORS

APM Terminals Maasvlakte II (MVII), Embotech AG, and Terberg have entered into a cooperation agreement to supply and fully implement 30 automated electric terminal tractors (ATTs), a first in the industry.

This tripartite partnership demonstrates a joint commitment to the successful deployment of innovative port technology. The new fleet of automated terminal trucks is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2027, following a successful pilot and extensive testing at APM Terminals MVII. The autonomous technology was found to be ready for safe, large-scale deployment.

The ATTs feature Embotech’s Level 4 AV Kit, which enables them to operate autonomously in complex traffic scenarios with high precision. The system reliably detects obstacles in all weather conditions and provides sub-5cm localization accuracy, allowing for seamless reversing at crane transfer points. This project is set to establish new benchmarks in the field of autonomous horizontal transport at container terminals.
